The European project will bring together companies, technology centres, European projects and institutions in Valencia on 29 September

The event will showcase solutions for coffee waste valorisation, agricultural sustainability and European funding opportunities

VALENCIA, 21 August 2026. The European project ECOFFEE will bring together companies, technology centres, European projects and institutions in Valencia on Tuesday, 29 September, to explore how innovation, climate action and the circular economy can transform the coffee value chain.

The event, titled “From Seed to Cup: Innovation, Climate Action and Circular Economy in the Coffee Value Chain”, will take place at Sabadell Hub Empresa in a hybrid format. It is organised within the framework of ECOFFEE Task 3.4, focused on disseminating project results and strengthening links with European policies and collaboration opportunities.

The event will highlight the potential of coffee waste as a source of new industrial resources. During the ECOFFEE session, representatives from Euskovazza, AZTI and FumiHogar will present the solutions developed within the project for the collection, characterisation and valorisation of spent coffee grounds.

Euskovazza will present its reverse logistics and smart collection model developed for the HORECA and vending sectors. AZTI will showcase its work on the nutritional characterisation of coffee waste for use in animal feed, as well as the environmental impact assessment carried out using the GRETA tool. FumiHogar will present solutions aimed at developing natural and sustainable biocides.

European innovation applied to agriculture

The programme will also showcase experiences from other European projects working to accelerate the sustainable transformation of the agri-food sector.

The panel “Success Stories: Synergies and Sustainability Applied to Agriculture” will feature LIFE NextFUMIGREEN and CHOICE, presenting solutions related to climate mitigation, sustainable crop protection, farm resilience and resource efficiency.

Representatives from TECNiCAFÉ, Supracafé and Bioazul will contribute experiences related to coffee production and the transition towards more sustainable agricultural models.

The programme will continue with the round table “From Cup to Seed”, focusing on how these innovations can be applied in coffee-producing countries. The session will also include a coffee tasting organised by the CHOICE project, providing an opportunity for interaction, knowledge exchange and networking.

European funding opportunities for new solutions

The event will conclude with a session dedicated to European funding opportunities and next steps, presenting different instruments to support the replication of innovative solutions and the continuation of collaboration between projects and organisations.

The session will cover programmes and initiatives including AECID, LIFE, Horizon Europe, Erasmus+ and AL-INVEST Verde.

The event will close with a networking session designed to foster new connections between companies, institutions, technology centres and European projects.

From seed to cup. From waste to resource. From ideas to action.
