The European ECOFFEE project, supported through the Horizon Europe programme via the CIRCULOOS ecosystem, concluded its participation at Transfiere 2026 in Málaga. Over three exhibition days, the consortium achieved significant networking outcomes and demonstrated visibility at Europe's premier science and innovation forum.

Key Presentation: Juanma Revuelta, CEO of the Finnova Foundation, presented ECOFFEE: From Waste to Strategic Resource at the Research Center's Green Tech session on February 25. The presentation showcased how spent coffee grounds—substantial daily waste from hospitality and vending sectors—can transform into valuable bioproducts rather than remaining an environmental burden.

Technological Achievements: The consortium highlighted several breakthroughs, including optimized reverse logistics via Euskovazza's networks, bioproduct development (animal feed ingredients from AZTI, natural biocides from FumiHogar), and digital traceability using CIRCULOOS ecosystem tools to validate carbon footprint reductions and match supply with demand.

Strategic Partnerships: Stand A3 hosted continuous activity where project representatives fostered commercialization discussions. Notable collaboration occurred between FumiHogar's Operations Manager Carlos Ramos and investment partners at Sicloo Circular Ventures, exploring circular economy synergies and private capital interest in zero-waste solutions.

Project Details: ECOFFEE operates with a €256,451.25 budget, co-funded through Horizon Europe (Grant Agreement CIRCULOOS No. 101092295). The consortium comprises AZTI, Euskovazza, FumiHogar, and the Finnova Foundation, aiming to demonstrate comprehensive spent coffee ground valorization through innovative technologies and digital traceability systems.
