The Horizon Europe–funded project promotes sustainable solutions to transform coffee grounds into high-value products, advancing a circular bioeconomy across Europe
Brussels, 5 November 2025. The European project ECOFFEE, funded by the Horizon Europe programme (GA No. 101092295), was presented during Expo Agritech 2025, held at FYCMA (Málaga) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 28–30 October. The event served as a platform to raise awareness of ECOFFEE’s innovative circular economy model focused on valorising coffee waste.
During the presentation, Juanma Revuelta, CEO of the Finnova Foundation, and Carlos Ramos, Operations Manager at FumiHogar, highlighted the project’s potential to convert coffee residues into sustainable, replicable and economically viable resources. ECOFFEE promotes a new approach to production and consumption aligned with the European Green Deal, the EU Circular Economy Action Plan and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 9, 12 and 13).
With a total budget of €256,451.25 and a duration of 12 months, ECOFFEE brings together a multidisciplinary consortium composed of AZTI, Euskovazza, FumiHogar and the Finnova Foundation. The partners combine scientific, technological, industrial and communication expertise to move towards a more sustainable and competitive Europe.
The presentation took place within the ACENTA Andalucía area, led by the Centro Tecnológico Tecnova, which hosted projects focused on digitalisation and sustainability in the agri-industrial sector.
Expo Agritech 2025 concluded with 8,149 professionals in attendance and the presentation of 604 technological innovations in advanced machinery, smart irrigation, precision agriculture, agro-energy and biofertilisers. The fair positioned Málaga as a leading hub for agricultural innovation in Europe, emphasising artificial intelligence, soil regeneration and public-private cooperation as key drivers for transforming the agricultural sector.
