The partners explored Fumihogar’s industrial capabilities and discussed how its fumigation technologies could contribute to scalable circular applications for spent coffee grounds

Málaga, 3 December 2025.Representatives from AZTI, Fumihogar and the Finnova Foundation held a technical consortium meeting at Fumihogar’s facilities in Málaga to review progress within ECOFFEE and align the next implementation steps.

The session included discussions on operational insights, technical milestones and collaboration pathways, particularly focusing on Fumihogar’s fumigation technologies, their characteristics, and their potential role in supporting industrial circular solutions for coffee waste valorisation.

Following the meeting, partners conducted an on-site visit to Fumihogar’s premises, gaining first-hand understanding of its production processes and capacity to contribute to ECOFFEE’s development goals.

“This session reinforced the link between scientific research, industrial implementation and practical innovation — a key aspect of ECOFFEE’s mission,” the partners highlighted during the visit.

ECOFFEE is an innovation project selected under CIRCULOOS – Horizon Europe, with a 12-month duration and a total budget of €256,451.25.
Its objective is to transform spent coffee grounds into high-value bio-based ingredients and products, leveraging reverse logistics models, digital traceability tools and environmental assessment methodologies.

The project brings together AZTI, Euskovazza, Fumihogar and the Finnova Foundation, combining research, industrial expertise and innovation capacity to accelerate the transition towards a circular coffee sector aligned with the EU Green Deal, Circular Economy strategy, and SDGs 9, 12 and 13.
