• Our consortium will participate this Wednesday, February 25, in the Green Tech session (Elevator Pitch) at Spain’s largest science and innovation event, held in Malaga
  • We will demonstrate how our dry micro-dispersion technology transforms spent coffee grounds into 100% natural biocides and animal feed that reduces livestock methane emissions
  • Juanma Revuelta, CEO of Finnova (project partner), will present the model and the pathways to replicate it across Europe

MALAGA, February 23, 2026 – The European project ECOFFEE (funded by the Horizon Europe programme through the CIRCULOOS ecosystem) is taking a strategic step towards the market. This Wednesday, February 25, our initiative will take the spotlight at the Research Center area of Transfiere 2026, the leading European Forum for Science, Technology, and Innovation, which gathers the main R&D&I ecosystem players in Malaga.

At 4:55 PM, the project will participate in the Elevator Pitch session dedicated to green technologies (Green Tech). Juanma Revuelta, CEO of the Finnova Foundation—the partner in charge of technology transfer and impact within our consortium—will be the spokesperson tasked with presenting our promising research results to the market, investors, and public administrations.

From waste to resource: Agriculture 5.0

Every year, thousands of tons of spent coffee grounds (SCG) end up in landfills, emitting greenhouse gases and wasting high-value compounds. The ECOFFEE consortium was born to break this linear dynamic and create a true industrial symbiosis model.

During the presentation at Transfiere, we will showcase how the synergy among the four project partners has made this technological milestone possible:

  • Euskovazza has designed and implemented a multi-channel reverse logistics network capable of massive waste collection in the HORECA and corporate sectors.
  • AZTI, assuming the scientific leadership, has developed the drying, stabilization, and technical validation process to transform the waste into an innovative animal feed ingredient that improves livestock health and reduces methane emissions.
  • FumiHogar has applied its disruptive dry micro-dispersion industrial technology to extract caffeine and flavonoids from coffee, creating highly effective 100% natural biocides (fungicides and insecticides) for agricultural and environmental health.
  • Finnova ensures the transfer of these results to the market, measuring the impact and connecting innovation with new European funding opportunities.

Scalability: The next step towards #ZeroWaste

The model developed by ECOFFEE, which is co-funded with over €250,000 by the European Union, has already proven its technical viability. At Transfiere 2026, the goal will be to invite agri-food companies and public entities to join the «circular coffee revolution.»

During the pitch, the pathways for new territories to replicate our technology will be announced, highlighting cascade funding opportunities and European scalability programs, such as the LIFE Programme.

We invite all attendees, media, and interested stakeholders to witness the Elevator Pitch at 4:55 PM in the Research Center, and to visit us afterwards at Stand A3, where our team will be available to explain the project in detail and explore future collaborations.

About the ECOFFEE project: The ECOFFEE project has received funding from the European Commission through the CIRCULOOS Grant Agreement No. 101092295 (Horizon Europe programme). Its objective is to develop, demonstrate, and implement at real scale an innovative and sustainable solution for the recovery of coffee by-products, transforming them into raw materials for animal feed and biocides, ensuring the digital traceability of the process.
